Daniel Island, South Carolina is a family-friendly island community nestled beyond the Charleston Harbor between the Cooper and Wando Rivers with a 20 minute proximity to downtown Charleston and the nearby beaches. Daniel Island attracts Northerns and local Charlestonians alike searching for an active island lifestyle.
Here's 10 things we love about Daniel Island
By Renee Gutzwiller, Owner/Artist Island Haus Co.
1. Southern-style architecture
The friendly neighborhood celebrates southern architecture with double porches, tropical colored front doors, huge palm trees, and giant Oak trees. It's the inspiration for so many of my Island Haus illustrations including our Beach House Keychain.
2. Outdoor activities
A warm low-country climate paired with endless bike paths and waterfront walking trails means my family and I are constantly outdoors. You can walk the entire island and never own a car. Although, we do love cruising around in our Island Haus Golf Cart.
3. Dining with a view
A new favorite, The Kingstide just opened Spring 2021 with waterfront dining along the Wando River. I love having a glass of Rose at happy hour with friends. In the mornings, I catch up with neighbors over coffee at Blondies Bagels & Cafe or a yummy acai bowl at Beech.
4. Family-friendly
From pools and playgrounds to rec sports and our own little public library, Daniel Island is a sweet southern haven for kids of all ages. There is so much to do for kids including Peace, Love, & Hip Hop and Ospure Karate.
5. Local Gift Shops
Paisley (women's apparel) carries seasonal trends, while Island Expressions (home and gifts) and Monograms (home and gifts) are perfect treasure troves for unique gifts.
6. Golf and tennis play time
When I want to relax with a friendly game of golf, the Daniel Island Club offers members two private golf courses. LTP Tennis Center brings fun tennis play to the island for adults and kids. The easy access to the island life country club community inspires our Racket + Club Collection at Island Haus Co.
7. Island style entertainment
The Volvo Car Open hosts the largest professional women's tennis tournament in the world every April right on the island. Plus, the tennis stadium hosts seasonal outdoor concerts including Hootie & the Blowfish, Kenny Chesney, and ZZ Top. Ya'll, it's so much fun! I love riding our bikes to a concert in our own backyard.
8. Water access and water views
We're surrounded by two rivers that lead to the Charleston Harbor so boating, kayaking, and paddle boarding are always on my leisure to do list. Or we can take the Daniel Island Ferry straight to downtown Charleston.
9. Nature in our backyard
The low-country marshes are home to such a beautiful array of animals including alligators (for real ya'll), great blue herons, osprey, dolphins, fiddler crabs, red fish, and more.
10. Pink Charleston sunsets
Walk around our neighborhood park Smythe Lake at sunset and you'll enjoy the pink reflection over the lake and fall in love with Daniel Island, I promise!
That's why Daniel Island is one of our favorite island towns. Shop our Island Haus Co. Daniel Island Collection of souvenirs including coffee mug, notepad, sticker, and city print.
